Funding for network security applianceFirstCapital the corporate finance house that specialises in securing funding for early stage technology companies, has completed a £1,000,000 venture capital funding round for Webscreen Technology, an infrastructure appliance provider. Funds were committed by East River Ventures, an East Coast venture capitalist in the US and Saffron Hill Ventures, both of which will have representation on the company's board of directors. Webscreen Technology have developed a hardware device (WebScreen) designed to eliminate the effects of a Distributed Denial Of Service attack. DDoS is a new breed of attack which has already disrupted high profile websites such as Yahoo, eBay, CNN, Microsoft and BT, causing a great deal of bad publicity and financial loss. WebScreen's inbuilt algorithm parameters prevents malicious traffic from entering the network whilst allowing legitimate traffic to pass unhindered. Gary Milo, CEO of Webscreen Technology, says "We are very pleased to have secured this funding especially in such tough market conditions. It will allows us to complete the development of the product, fund it through to launch and enable initial operations." "Company's who have verified a clear problem in the market and have customer crying our for their solution, will be the ones that get funded," says Jason Purcell of FirstCapital. DDoS attacks are extremely difficult to prevent. Webscreen Technology is a company with a proprietary offering mitigating the threat, effective in its operation and is both scalable and defensible.
